Cultural events at the Law Institute
A special attention is paid to the cultural upbringing of the future lawyers. There has been established the club of esthetic values within the frameworks of which the students meet noted musicians, composers, writers, artists.
Those who wish can develop their theatrical skills at the students’ theatre “Cylinder” which has been established in close cooperation with the Irkutsk Dramatic Theatre named after N. A. Okhlopkov. Under the guidance of the leading actors of the Irkutsk Dramatic Theatre the students have staged more than 10 performances. The students’ theatre of the Law Institute has been given awards at the city, regional and state festivals.
The youth academic students’ chorus of the Law Institute of Irkutsk State University “Gaudeamus” is the pride of the Institute. The members of the chorus have repeatedly become prizewinners of the international and state festivals; they have participated in the city and regional actions and arrange their own concerts in concert halls of Irkutsk.
For more comfortable and effective work of creative teams of students and academicians the Leisure center is specially established at Law Institute.
The Institute has its own Art gallery. There are up to 10 exhibitions of known Irkutsk artists and photographers at the gallery annually; and also works of students and academicians of Law Institute are exhibited.
There are about 60 cultural events within an academic year at the Institute: concerts, literary soirees, charitable and social actions, intellectual games, solemn processions, competitions and presentations.
Sports opportunities at the Law Institute
Sport is an integral part of the education process. The Law Institute has its own Sports complex. The students have the opportunity to work out in large sports halls with up-to-date facilities under the supervision of the highly qualified instructors. The Institute can boast of having its own tennis court, stadium, basketball court, skiing lodge, skating rink and various sports sections.
The Law Institute of Irkutsk State University organizes:
- the International basketball tournament among students’ commands of high schools of the Baikal region, Mongolia and China “the Irkutsk Themis”;
- the Open championship of Irkutsk region in the big tennis “the Baikal Autumn”;
- the Tournament in indoor soccer among teenage teams of Irkutsk “The Memory”, devoted to the Victory Day;
- the Traditional basketball tournament for prizes of “the Cup of V. P. Domanzho, the first dean of the Law Faculty of Irkutsk State University”;
- the Tournaments in arm wrestling, weightlifting, street-ball and over 15 sports actions.
